Salimetrics, the world’s leading partner in Salivary Bioscience research, celebrates how one drop of saliva enabled an international transdisciplinary scientific community.
This month, Salimetrics celebrates its 20th anniversary. “These past twenty years have witnessed exponential growth in knowledge facilitated by salivary bioscience research, and Salimetrics has been part of that journey every step of the way. Now, after many years of basic and descriptive study, salivary bioscience is ready to translate its findings in an even bigger way,” says Douglas Granger, Ph.D., Salimetrics Founder and Chief Scientific and Strategy Advisor. Salimetrics has always focused on providing the knowledge and tools to enable an international research effort. The initial focus of salivary bioscience was largely centered on assessing hormones in saliva such as cortisol. “We had a vision from the start that a wide range of measurements could be possible using saliva, and that Salimetrics would be the best partner to bring about those tools and methods,” says Granger. “Recent advancements now include salivary measures of environmental chemical exposure, infectious disease, metabolomics, oral microbiome, and inflammation. Salimetrics is committed to being the best partner for the next generation of salivary bioscience research.”
Historically, Salimetrics has always been more than just a good assay manufacturer. More often considered a scientific collaborator, Salimetrics’ extensive customer support stands by investigators in support of their specific aims, and always goes above and beyond. “It’s team science, through and through,” says Granger. From students to novice researchers to industry leading pharmaceuticals and contract research organizations, Salimetrics collaborates with investigators in both the academic and diagnostic fields across many scientific disciplines. “It gives me great pride when those we work with have tremendous success, are instrumental in revealing a new discovery, and through the incorporation of salivary measurements, become nextgen key opinion leaders in their respective fields.” Now with a base community of over 20,000 researchers worldwide, Salimetrics is indeed at the epicenter of salivary bioscience and remains committed to building and maintaining long-lasting relationships and collaborations with investigators interested in pushing knowledge boundaries.
What you may not know is that Salimetrics itself has also transformed over 20 years. In 2013, its Technology Center and Saliva Testing Laboratory relocated to Carlsbad, California. The academic arm of this endeavor has moved from a lab at Penn State, to a center at Johns Hopkins University, and more recently to an institute at the University of California, Irvine. Most importantly, Salimetrics has remained family owned and operated.
“We value our relationships with researchers. At the heart of our efforts, we have always been and always will be a company focused on quality and driven by rigorous, uncompromising scientific values. We’re not driven by a mediocre and extensive product line, but rather by developing the most accurate, reproducible, and precise tools and protocols that provide better results and drive research forward. We’re a company built on attention to detail, constantly in pursuit of scientific knowledge and focused on always doing better for the field in which we serve,” says Hans Schroeder, Salimetrics CEO.
“We would like to personally thank all of the researchers who have been on this journey with us for the last 20 years,” says Granger. “We consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to work with you now and in the future. The next 20 years will be especially interesting as we sort out the details of the basic science and determine for whom and under what circumstances salivary bioscience can make a difference. No doubt we can accomplish more together than independently. Onward!”
