How to collect saliva with the SalivaBio Children’s or Infant’s Swab and the Swab Storage Tube

Ready to collect saliva samples from children (6 months – 6 years of age) and infants the easy way? Watch this video where Marci from Salimetrics demonstrates how to collect saliva samples using the SalivaBio’s Children’s Swab (SCS) and how to place the SCS in the Swab Storage Tube for easy storage and transport. The infant’s swab follows the same process, but with a slightly thinner swab to more easily collect saliva from an infant’s small mouth.

Saliva Collection Step-by-Step Outline:

1. Open pouch and remove the Salimetrics Children’s Swab (SCS) or Salimetrics Infant’s Swab (SIS) from the package (gloves are recommended)
2. Hold one end of the SCS/SIS in your hand and place the opposite end in the participant’s mouth (under the tongue is recommended – However, saliva can also be collected wherever it may pool, such as in the corners of the mouth.
3. Hold the swab under the tongue (if possible) for up to 2 minutes (or as long as instructed). If you’re unable to keep the swab in place for the recommended time, you may remove and reintroduce the swab as needed until the recommended time has passed.
4. Place the saturated swab-end into the Swab Storage Tube basket, and fold over the dry end.
5. Cap the Swab Storage Tube and store as recommended or according to your specific instructions.

SCS/SIS Swab Cautions:

1. Use only as directed.
2. This device is clean packaged, not sterile.
3. Store out of reach of children.
4. Adult assistance and supervision is required during use.
5. DO NOT USE if cuts or tears are present on device.
6. To ensure safety and proper use, a copy of the full protocol must be distributed to each device user.
