Salimetrics reaffirms its commitment to supporting the research community with easy access to best-in-class methods for collecting and testing saliva and dried blood spot samples.
On May 1st, 2025, with an update on May 7th, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released new guidelines specifying that principal investigators (PIs) with extramural awards from the NIH may no longer nest grant funds for services provided by foreign entities as subawards to their parent grant. While focused on formal subawards, this policy also appears to extend to purchased services and components from foreign entities of NIH-funded research.
In support of researchers, Salimetrics has now expanded its testing capacity to provide researchers affected by NOT-OD-25-104 easy access to high value, best-in-class collection and testing methods. Salimetrics’ current research partners will not be impacted by NOT-OD-25-104.
Of note, specific wording in NOT-OD-25-104 is as follows:
“…In all cases, NIH will allow Institutes, Centers and Offices (ICOs) to renegotiate awards, whether new, renewal or non-competing, to remove subawards to foreign entities and, where the work can be performed domestically, allow the funds to be rebudgeted for use by the prime recipient (domestic or foreign) or a domestic subrecipient.”
Salimetrics understands the challenges that this NIH notice may present for investigators and has already been contacted by researchers seeking help to stay compliant without disrupting their research program. With domestic operations and an infrastructure designed to reduce administrative and technical burdens, Salimetrics enables investigators to focus on their core scientific work—not on logistical red tape. “We built Salimetrics to help researchers avoid these very challenges,” says Steve Granger, Ph.D., Salimetrics Chief Scientific Officer. “We operate one of the largest labs dedicated to salivary bioscience research in the country. Our services are designed to absorb these operational pressures so that scientists can remain focused on discovery and innovation.”
Above all, Salimetrics supports the scientific community. For those newly impacted by the policy, the Salimetrics team is committed to leveraging extended capacity to assist. “If you have saliva or dried blood spot biospecimen testing in your research subcontracted to a foreign entity, we’re here to help, whether you use our biomarker services or not,” says Dr. Granger. “Helping researchers achieve a successful study and do great research is important to us.”
Researchers can contact Salimetrics to further explore domestic solutions for laboratory and biospecimen processing needs at the Salimetrics Website.
